Cowboy Hat

Put a cowboy hat on my son’s head,
Let him stand amongst  the best,
He’ll ride the range, work hard all day,
Lie down at night, to the Lord he’ll pray.

A cowboy’s work is never done,
He rides the range ‘neath burning sun
He mends the fence and shoes his horse,
Births a calf and stays the course.

In sun and rain and dark of night,
He struggles on to win the fight.
Then in the eve he goes back home,
To his love, he’s not alone.

Put a cowboy hat on my son’s head,
Let him stand amongst  the best,
He’ll ride the range, work hard all day,
Lie down at night, to the Lord he’ll pray.

A cowboy’s work is never done,
And from a fight he’ll never run.
He only knows that he must try,
And for his country he would die.

He loves his wife and kids and land,
And for these things he’ll make a stand.
He volunteers when Freedom calls,
And he fights on till tyrants fall.

Put a cowboy hat on my son’s head,
Let him stand amongst  the best,
He’ll ride the range, work hard all day,
Lie down at night, to the Lord he’ll pray.

A cowboy’s work is never done,
Its now his turn so he must run,
Stay the course and win the state,
Then put an end, to all debate.

His country calls to him once more,
His Faith is shared from shore to shore,
As the Pres he now will lead,
Integrity, will succeed.

Put a cowboy hat on my son’s head,
Let him stand amongst  the best,
He’ll ride the range, work hard all day,
Lie down at night, to the Lord he’ll pray.

A cowboy’s work is never done,
And the work goes on from son to son.
The government says he can retire,
So all the work he pays to hire.

This is the Autumn of his life,
The golden years for his wife.
But where’s the gold he will say,
I want to fly away and play.

Then in his mind this tune will run,
A cowboy’s work is never done.
